There are a lot of books out there about personal branding, and each one is written by an “expert”.

But when it comes to building your career in the entertainment industry, you can forget what the experts say. Only one opinion counts at the interview table – your boss’.

Today I am continuing Career Green Light’s Personal Branding Seminar with an interview with a boss of bosses - DMA (Donna Michelle Anderson), a television executive and reality television guru.

Not only does DMA have a strong personal brand of her own (former model, musician, producer – current executive, author, entrepreneur) but as the person who decides who to promote and who to hire at a television network, she has to measure other people’s personal brands every day.

She’s in the perfect position to know what works and what doesn’t in personal branding. She knows what will get you hired, and what doesn’t really matter. This is your chance to get smarter than the experts, and learn from the perspective of a working “boss” in our industry.

In this interview we cover:

  • Why a having a brand matters in our business
  • Why you shouldn’t be the star of your own brand (and who it should be)
  • The fastest way to get your big break in showbiz.
  • How to use social media to express your brand

This isn’t a vanity-style ego boost interview. DMA and I chop it up for a half hour, going into specifics on how to build your brand. You’ll get a lot out of this, whether you work in front of the camera, behind the scenes, or run a small business that serves the industry.

Free Consulting Call Contest

As a part of the seminar series, I’m giving away 30 mins of consulting time to 3 lucky people. Do you want personalized consulting on how to use social media (LinkedIn, Twtter, blogging, etc.) to advance your career? Enter the contest and I just may hook you up.

Entering is easy, too. Just tell me about your favorite gig, and why you loved it so much. I’ll choose the 3 winner based on variety. So, if I get one person in the music biz, I’ll try to choose 2 others in television and film to even it out.

I’m closing the contest in early October, so you don’t have much time. It’s going to be cool to hear your “best job” story. Enter now!
